PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect flotation of a print medium and effectively suppress a print head from rubbing or striking a printed surface of the print medium.SOLUTION: A printer includes: a position detection unit that includes an optical element constituted by a diaphragm 53 or a lens, a light source 52, and a light-receiving element 54, irradiating a printed surface PS with light L1 from the light source 52, causing diffused and reflected light L3 among reflected light reflected by the printed surface PS to be incident on the light-receiving element 54 through the optical element, and outputting position information on a position of the printed surface PS from the light-receiving element 54; and a controller that stops moving of a carriage 36 if detecting flotation of a print medium P on the basis of the position information output from the light-receiving element 54. A virtual plane VP including the optical element and the light-receiving element 54 is inclined with respect to a normal of the printed surface PS in a sub-scan direction Y. |
