The present invention relates to a receiver and a method for receiving a digital broadcast signal. According to one aspect of the present invention, the digital broadcast receiver includes a digital data extraction unit receiving a digital broadcast signal transmitted in real time and extracting at least one of program related information and digital data from the digital broadcast signal; a file generation unit generating a digital file by using at least one of the program related information and the digital data; and a storage unit storing the digital file, wherein the digital broadcast receiver transmits the digital file to an external device. According to the present invention, by converting a digital broadcast signal into a digital file and transmitting the digital file to an external device without performing an additional operation on the external device, digital data may be played once a digital broadcast receiver of the present invention is connected.
