The present invention relates to a method for using a portable terminal which includes the steps of activating a timer function about a button if a touch about a preset button is sensed over preset time; measuring touch sustaining time about the button from a touch input point if the timer function is activated, and setting countdown time corresponding to the touch sustaining time about the button; and performing the countdown with preset countdown time if the touch about the button is finished, and executing a function corresponding to the button if the countdown is completed.
