A method of operating a pitch system of a wind turbine with a tower, wherein a pitch controller (2) computes a pitch reference signal, includes the following steps:
- activating the creation of an auxiliary pitch signal in dependence on a movement signal representing movement of the tower and on a lubrication signal representing lubrication requirements of the pitch system;
- creating the auxiliary pitch signal based upon the movement signal;
- creating a modified pitch reference signal by adding the auxiliary pitch signal to the pitch reference signal;
- applying the modified pitch reference signal to the pitch system.
