The present invention relates to a memory card such as a smart card and specifically, to a memory card having a commonly used storage area and a method for controlling access to the commonly used storage area. The memory card according to an embodiment of the present invention, installs or may install one or more applets of cooperative companies for supporting a service of each cooperative company, and comprises a memory including the commonly used storage area which may be commonly used as an information storage space by the applets of the cooperative companies, wherein the commonly used storage area is separated into a cooperative area for each service; and a memory management part for allowing or blocking the access to the requested cooperative area according to an access right of the applet when an arbitrary applet requests to access the cooperative area.
