Provided are a method and a device for enabling an electronic device to output advertisement information when the device is being charged by using an external charging device. An electronic device control method for providing the advertisement information includes the steps of: connecting the external charging device to data communication following the start of charging a battery by the external charging device; installing a predetermined application in the electronic device following the connection of the external charging device to data communication; and outputting the advertisement information to the electronic device by using the installed application.
