Disclosed are a mobile terminal and a controlling method thereof. The mobile terminal according to one embodiment of the present invention receives and saves balance information of a virtual account from an external server to manage the virtual account through a wireless communication unit, compares a payment amount with the balance of the virtual account when a payment request input is received by using a part of the balance of the virtual account, requests payment from the external server if the payment amount is below the balance of the virtual account, and displays the payment result according to the payment request.
