Provided are a system and a method for controlling peripherals based on a topology. A method for enabling a main peripheral to control sub-peripherals comprises the steps of receiving device information related to the sub-peripherals from a host device; of receiving situation information related to the situation of the host device from the host device; of obtaining topology setting information related to a topology formation standard; of determining the sub-peripherals, which may be included in the topology, based on the situation information and the topology setting information; of connecting the main peripheral to the sub-peripherals and the host device; and of controlling the sub-peripherals based on the control information received from the host device.
