The present disclosure generally relates to an internal combustion engine (1) comprising a cylinder (2) defining a combustion chamber (28) for combusting an air/fuel-mixture therein, a piston (30) reciprocally movable within the cylinder (2) between a top dead center (TDC) and a bottom dead center (BDC) and including an uppermost piston ring (32) configured to sealingly contact the cylinder (2), an annular crevice (18) facing the combustion chamber (28) and being defined by the cylinder (30), the piston (2), and the uppermost piston ring (32), and at least one flow channel (40) fluidly connected to the combustion chamber (28) and configured to direct unburned air/fuel-mixture out of the combustion chamber (28). The at least one flow channel (40) may be positioned to be directly fluidly connected to the annular crevice (18), when the piston (30) is situated such that a crank angle is in a range from about 85° to 95° after the top dead center (TDC). |
