METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR POWER PLANT DYNAMIC VAR REGULATION AND TRANSIENT STABILITY IMPROVEMENT

A method and an apparatus are provided for controlling at least one generator and a Static Var Compensator (SVC) to improve the dynamic performance of a power plant. The method comprises the steps of: obtaining the required input parameters for controlling the generators and the SVC (101); determining a control mode of the generators and the SVC (102); calculating control references based on the required input parameters and the control mode of the generators and the SVC (103); and controlling the generators and/or the SVC according to the control references (104). The method may improve the active power throughput capability of the power plant, extend dynamic reactive power regulation capacity, and enhance generator transient stability under system disturbances.
