The method involves registering two mobile radio modules (18, 32) for different cellular radio systems (20, 40). A network coverage of a predesignated geographical area is checked. One of the mobile radio modules is selected for which the coverage is met with a predetermined optimization criterion. Data is transferred between an electronic device (14) and the selected mobile radio module when a motor vehicle (10) is in an area. The mobile modules are incorporated in different electronic devices. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle.
