The pump (1) has a pump housing (2) with a mounting opening (9) at the pump side facing the engine. The pump housing has pump housing-fixing holes (3a,4a,5a) for fastening the pump at the engine by screws. A flange closes the mounting opening and comprises two flange-fixing holes. Each screw reaches through the pump housing-fixing holes during connection of the pump with the engine. The flange or the pump housing are designed such that the flange moves in a desired position relative to pump housing during connection with the pump housing or during insertion of the screws in the fixing holes or during tightening of the screw for fastening the pump at the engine. An independent claim is included for a method for fastening a pump with a flange at the engine.
