The component has a probe head (12) attached at a bar-shaped shaft (10) and formed in a tub or barrel shape. The head exhibits a small tub radius (R4) at an end of the head and a large tub radius (R2) at an equator (E) of the head, where a ratio of small radius to the large radius is 0.5 to 0.97 and a ratio of the large radius to a tub radius of curvature (R1) of 0.06 to 0.5. The head comprises a proximate portion (PP) and a distal portion (DP). The proximate portion extends from shaft to the equator, and the distal portion extends from the equator to a free end (FE) of the probe head. An independent claim is also included for a method for the measuring of a coordinate in an internal thread containing hole.
