PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure switching transport path switching means without putting continuously transported sheets between constituent elements with a simple configuration.SOLUTION: A sheet transport device for transporting a sheet includes: a sheet transport path having a branch point, and including a first transport path and a second transport path branching off at the branch point downstream in a transport direction of the sheet; a transport path switching member provided near the branch point, and movable between a first position for introducing the sheet to the first transport path and a second position for introducing the sheet to the second transport path; drive means for driving the transport path switching means to move from the first position to the second position; and holding means for applying a load to driving by the drive means, and temporarily holding the transport path switching member at a third position between the first position and the second position if the transport path switching member is driven by the drive means to move from the first position to the second position. |
