<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods for delaying a plant development process, wherein the method can provide better control of fruit ripening, vegetable ripening, flower senescence, leaf abscission, and seed germination and can extend the shelf-life of various agricultural products (e.g., fruit, vegetables, and cut flowers).SOLUTION: In specific embodiments, one or more bacteria are selected from the group consisting of Rhodococcus spp., Pseudomonas chlororaphis, Brevibacterium ketoglutamicum, and a mixture comprising any combination of these bacteria. Apparatuses for delaying a plant development process comprises a catalyst that comprises one or more of the bacteria. In the method, the bacteria are induced by being exposed to an inducing agent selected from the group comprising asparagine, glutamine, cobalt, urea, and mixtures thereof. Thus longer distance transportation of these products is permitted without the need for refrigeration, and product loss are prevented from decreasing due to ripening and senescence of the plant.</p> |
