CONTROL CHANNEL SIGNALING AND ACQUISITION FOR CARRIER AGGREGATION

A method and apparatus for handling a control channel for carrier aggregation in wireless communications. The method includes determining which component carrier to listen to, detecting the downlink control channel, processing mapping information related to downlink and uplink transmissions and operating discontinuous reception with respect to carrier aggregation. The method also includes detecting a component carrier, determining the component carrier type and locating the anchor component carrier, if necessary, where the anchor component carrier carries the carrier aggregation information.

1. A method implemented by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:
receiving a first radio resource control (RRC) message comprising information regarding carrier aggregation, wherein the information regarding carrier aggregation comprises an indication that downlink control information for a first component carrier will be received via a second component carrier; receiving a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) transmission on the second component carrier, wherein the PDDCH transmission comprises a downlink grant and an index indicating which component carrier is to be used for carrying a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) transmission associated with the downlink grant; determining the PDSCH transmission is to be received on first component carrier based on the index included in the PDCCH transmission received on the second component carrier; and receiving the PDSCH transmission on the first component carrier in accordance with the downlink grant included in the PDCCH transmission received on the second component carrier.
