There is provided a tobacco unit (200) for use in a making device for smoking articles. The tobacco unit (200) comprises a quantity of shredded tobacco and an outer wrapper enveloping the shredded tobacco. The quantity of shredded tobacco is suitable for making one smoking article. The tobacco unit (200) is longitudinally extending and has a substantially rectangular cross section. The outer wrapper is open at both ends of the tobacco unit (200). The tobacco density at one or both ends of the longitudinally extending tobacco unit (200) is between about 5% and about 20% higher than the tobacco density between the ends of the longitudinally extending tobacco unit (200). |
