The method involves applying a layer (18) with a spray head (20) on a substrate (12) and drying the layer after the application. An actual film thickness of the applied layer prior to drying, is measured. Pressure of the coating material in the spray head is adjusted when a detected deviation of the film thickness is above a predetermined desired layer thickness. A control signal for a pressure regulating device is produced from target pressure, and a pressure sensor is arranged in the spray head. An independent claim is also included for an apparatus for wet coating of a substrate.
