The handle unit (1) has a door exterior wall (2) arranged in a vehicle door and comprising a grip recess (3), which covers a swingable closure flap (4) in a closed state of the handle unit. A first sensor unit (6) detects approach of a hand on the handle unit. The first sensing unit is coupled with a hydraulic drive (7) for pivoting the closure flap in opened position. A second sensing unit detects one hand positioned in the grip recess, which is linked or coupled with an unlocking mechanism of the vehicle door. The sensing units are designed as a push-button and an infrared sensor unit.
