PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an EGR cooler for an internal combustion engine, capable of suppressing the boiling of cooling medium in an internal cooling medium passage during executing the stop of the cooling medium.SOLUTION: An EGR cooler (100) for the internal combustion engine includes a heat exchanger (106) having a plurality of internal gas passages (108) through which EGR gas passes, and which are defined by members, the members being each made of a material including SiC, an internal cooling medium passage (107) arranged outside the heat exchanger for the cooling medium to pass via an engine body (10) therethrough, and a cross section varying device (120) for changing the cross section of the internal gas passage existing in a region near the cooling medium so that the cross section of the internal gas passage existing in the region near the cooling medium as a region a predetermined distance inside from the outer peripheral edge of the heat exchanger, out of the plurality of internal gas passages, is smaller during executing the stop of the cooling medium than after finishing the stop of the cooling medium. |
