A closure lid (12) includes a body (26) for covering a container opening and a plurality of projecting portions (34) extending from a periphery of the body and spaced from one another around the periphery of the body, with each formed to surround a portion of the container's rim. A ring (36) is frangibly connected to the projecting portions (34) and surrounds the container rim. A plurality of retaining fingers (38) are provided, projecting inwardly from the ring (36) for engaging the external sidewall of the container rim. The fingers are spaced from one another and are interleaved within the spacing between adjacent projecting portions. The engagement of the fingers with the container is visible through the spacing between the projecting portions, and they are removed along with the ring on first opening of the lid.
