The pump (1) has an impeller, and a working chamber divided into an inflow workspace and an outflow workspace. The inflow workspace has an inflow duct for introducing the fluid to be conveyed. The outflow channels are opened in outflow workspace for discharging pumped fluid from outflow workspace. A bypass channel is formed from first outflow channel to inflow duct. An actuator for variable control and/or regulation of bypass channel is formed in the housing for integrating the routable volume flow of fluid into the bypass channel. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a high-pressure injection system for internal combustion engine; and (2) a method for operating a high-pressure injection system.
