PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator allowing a maintenance worker to more safely carry out maintenance work.SOLUTION: An elevator 10 comprises: an elevator car 22 that is guided by a guide rail 21 provided in a hoistway 12 to move vertically; a speed governing portion 24 that detects speed of a speed governor rope 28 moving along with movement of the elevator car 22, and when the speed surpasses a first speed, terminates driving of a main rope 16 of the elevator car 22, and when the speed surpasses a second speed, terminates movement of the speed governor rope 28; and an emergency stop mechanism 38a that when the elevator car 22 moves, with the speed governor rope 28 being terminated, urgently stops the elevator car 22. The elevator 10 also comprises a holding portion 30 that even when the speed does not surpass the second speed during inspection of inspecting and maintaining the elevator car 22 while the car is stopped, holds the speed governor rope 28 to stop movement of the rope 28. |
