PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal neutron absorbing material which sufficiently absorbs thermal neutrons so that, for example, a recriticality state can be prevented from occurring during operations of demolishing a melting reactor core.SOLUTION: A thermal neutron absorbing material includes: particulate thermal neutron absorbers each of which has a thermal neutron absorption cross section of 100 barns or more; and resin layers coating each surface of the thermal neutron absorbers. The material is used for recriticality prevention during operations of demolishing a melting reactor core and for a coating of a fuel storage container. A gadolinium oxide or boron carbide is especially suitable for the thermal neutron absorbers. |
