The method involves providing blanket cylinder (2) and a plate cylinder (3) with intercommunicating bearing rings (5,6). The printing unit is configured to perform two modes of operation. An inking unit is arranged on the plate cylinder on first operation mode and the ink is applied by the printing cylinder. The drive of plate cylinder is controlled and configured to exert braking torque on the blanket cylinder in second operation mode and pressure of the bearing rings are set and maintained.
