PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording material discrimination device capable of suppressing a transparent member from being damaged while suppressing moving of the recording material.SOLUTION: A recording material discrimination device 50 includes: a light source 61 irradiating light on a recording material P; an image pickup element 63 receiving the light irradiated by the light source 61 and reflected by a surface of the recording material P; a cover member 68 provided between the recording material P irradiated with the light by the light source 61 and the image pickup element 63, and transmitting the light reflected by the surface of the recording material P; and a roller 71 provided to be opposite to the cover member 68, and pressing the recording material P toward the cover member 68, and discriminates a type of the recording material P irradiated with the light by the light source 61 on the basis of an image picked up by the image pickup element 63. The roller 71 is a rotating member rotating along with the transported recording material P on the cover member 68. The roller 71 includes: a concave portion 71a that does not contact an entire portion corresponding to the image used for discrimination of the recording material P; and convex portions 71b contacting the recording material P. |
