PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel polypeptide comprising ice-binding capability resulting in an ice crystal formation and/or growth reducing or inhibiting activity, an edible product and a solid support comprising the novel polypeptide, a method for producing the novel polypeptide, and different uses of the novel polypeptide.SOLUTION: An anti-freeze polypeptide (AFP) is derived from Rhagium inquisitor and Rhagium mordax which are freeze avoiders and Cerambycid bark beetles. The polypeptide is produced by host cells suitable for the production of the polypeptide by recombinant expression. In the presence of the polypeptide, an edible product is freezed and oocytes or fertilized oocytes from a female or a female individual are freezed. |
