The appliance (2) has an electronic control device (3) controlling operation of the appliance by delivering control signals to an electrical load (4). An electrical energy storage (7) stores electrical energy for the load. The energy storage is electrically coupled with an electrical connection device (10) for charging the energy storage with the energy. A communication device (5) controls charging process of the energy storage. A heat transfer device (19) transfers exhaust heats produced during the charging process and/or discharging process of the energy storage to a hot water tank (16). The energy storage is designed as a battery. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a household appliance.
