PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which enables a user to easily grasp a method to operate a zooming function.SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus comprises: an imaging unit with the zooming function; a subject detecting unit which detects a predetermined subject from an image captured by the imaging unit and calculates the size of the detected subject in the image; a determination unit which uses the detected size to determine whether to notify a user of a method for zooming operation; and a notification unit which, when the determination unit determines to perform the notification, notifies the user of the method for zooming operation.
