PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress degradation of drivability in switching from stratified charge combustion to homogeneous combustion.SOLUTION: A control device of a direct-injection spark ignition type internal combustion engine can switch a stratification super-retard combustion mode in which ignition is performed after compression top dead center and after fuel injection by forming a stoichiometric air-fuel mixture around an ignition plug 14, and forming an air-fuel mixture of leaner air fuel ratio in comparison with stoichiometric one at the outside of the stoichiometric air-fuel mixture, and a homogenous combustion mode in which ignition is performed at an optimum ignition timing by forming a stoichiometric air fuel mixture in the whole combustion chamber. Residual gas rate control means 31 is further disposed to control a residual gas rate in the combustion chamber, so that the combustion mode is switched by combustion switching means 15 after lowering the residual gas rate by the residual gas rate control means 31 in switching from the stratification super-retard combustion mode to the homogenous combustion mode. |
