The claimed design for an engine is intended for use in internal combustion piston engines. The engine comprises a cylinder (1) with a piston (2) arranged therein. A projection (3) in the form of a cone is formed at the bottom of the piston (2). The projection (3) in the upper dead centre position of the piston (2) is located inside a combustion chamber (4), which is arranged in the head (5) of the cylinder (1). The ratio between the longitudinal dimension of the combustion chamber (4) and the transverse dimension thereof is 2.3. The ratio of the height of the projection (3) to the diameter of the base thereof is 1.3. The gap between the base of the projection (3) and the base of the combustion chamber (4) is 0.01 times the cylinder diameter. A reduction in the impact load on the cylinder-piston assembly of the engine during combustion of a fuel-air mix is achieved by virtue of the formation of the projection in the form of a cone at the bottom of the piston, which projection, in the position of the upper dead centre of the piston, is located inside the combustion chamber, by virtue of the fact that the ratio of the longitudinal dimension of the combustion chamber to the transverse dimension thereof amounts to 0.7-6.0, by virtue of the fact that the ratio of the height of the projection to the diameter of the base thereof amounts to 0.6-4.0, and by virtue of the fact that the gap between the base of the projection and the base of the combustion chamber amounts to 0.002-0.05 times the diameter of the cylinder.
