PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide for more efficient and faster acquisition of carousel transmitted EPG information.SOLUTION: In a system for accessing electronic program guide (EPG) information via a backchannel link, a first portion of EPG information residing in a data channel of a program content stream is received; a communication link is established between a media device and a remote EPG content system; and a second portion of the EPG information is received from the remote EPG content system via the established communication link.
