The invention relates to a device for inducing therapeutic hypothermia, comprising a blood pump combined with a Peltier-type thermoelectric refrigerator that allow the temperature of a patient's blood to be modified extracorporeally. The device comprises means connected to the pump and to the refrigerator, for extracting at least part of the blood flow of the patient, passing it through said pump and the refrigerator, and sending it back to the body of the patient.
