This method (machine) for producing a filter rod for a cigarette as a packaged article involves executing: a molding step (molding device (22)) for molding a prescribed quantity of a particulate material (X) into a molded body (M) using a binder, and molding the molded body (M) into a frozen molded body (MF) by freezing the same; a supply step (supply device (36)) for supplying the frozen molded body (MF) to tow (T), in order to form a filter rod (FR2) housing the particulate matter inside the tow (T) as a filter material and a packaging member; and a restoration step (restoration regions (44, 46)) for vaporizing and removing the binder from the frozen molded body (MF), and restoring the frozen molded body (MF) into dispersed particulate matter (X). In addition, the present invention also provides an intermediate article (FR1) of the filter rod (FR2), and the intermediate article (FR1) contains the frozen molded body (MF) while still in the frozen state.
