The system (10) has operating devices (12, 13) for operating lamps (14, 15) that are associated to a common subscriber group (16). The operating devices are attached to a main control device (11) through a DALI-control bus (17). An extender (18) is addressed by an address (23). Brightness sensors (19-21) are attached to the extender, and include a light-sensitive element e.g. light-sensitive diode, for producing a brightness signal. The extender delivers sensor data delivered by the sensors over the address or data derived from the sensor data as data to the control device. The brightness sensors are light sensors.
