Class 98(2) A photographic light-sensitive element contains a solvent-soluble phthalocyanine intermediate complex which on reduction gives an insoluble phthalocyanine pigment, and a diazonium compound. The complex may be one of those described in Specification 745,359 [Group IV(c)], or it may have the formula MPc(OR)nxh (where MPc stands for a metal or metal-free phthalocyanine molecule, X is Cl or Br, R is an alkyl group and n is 1 to 4, and in which the metal may be Cu, Co, Ni, Cr, Fe, Mg, or Na), or it may have the formula MPc (O.COR 2 (wnere COR is an acyl group of a carboxylic acid having 2 to 7 carbon atoms). Such complexes are described in U.S.A. Specifications 2,662,895, 2,662,896 and 2,662,897. A support such as of paper may be impregnated with a solution of the complex and diazonium compound in methanol, ethanol acetone, toluene, xylenes, chloroform, benzene, dioxane or ethylene glycol monoethyl monobutyl or monomethyl ether. Alternatively a support may be first coated with a colloid (e.g. gelatin, polyvinyl alcohol or polyvinyl acetal) and then impregnated with the solution or it may be coated with a mixture of an aqeuous dispersion of the colloid and the solution of complex and diazonium compound. Suitable diazonium compounds are specified. Exposure renders the diazonium compound reducing and the complex is thus reduced to insoluble phthalocyanine pigment in the exposed portions. After exposure, the unreacted complex is removed with a solvent or by treating with an aqueous solution of an acid. |
