The unit has a surface mounted-LED (10) for emitting light beam with an angular spectrum. A collection lens (6) e.g. Fresnel lens, converts the light beam from the LED into another light beam (8) with another angular spectrum, which is smaller than the former angular spectrum. The latter light beam is propagated through a hollow region of housing (2) of the light-emitting unit. A light diverging unit e.g. scattering lens or diffuser (4), converts the light beam (8) into divergent light beam (22).
