Initial depth test stages (4, 13) of a graphics processing pipe line (1) have related condition discarding tests and provide information (9, 10, 11, 14) on a fragment passing through an initial depth test for other stages (3, 4, 6, 12) in the pipeline. Next, another stage in the pipeline determines whether processing of an arbitrary fragment which is being currently processed may be decelerated, using the initial depth test pass information. If the fragment which triggered deceleration of the processing of the fragment in the pipeline already passes through all condition discarding tests, the fragment receives a signal for triggering stop of the processing of the fragment to which the already decelerated processing is transmitted. If the fragment fails in the condition discarding test, the fragment receives a signal for triggering resume of the processing of the fragment to which the already decelerated processing is transmitted. |
