PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical device that suppress deterioration of the function of a functional film, which is caused by nonuniform cross-sectional shape of the functional film, resulting from such a situation that a liquid droplet discharged to a functional film section spreads onto a part of a light shield layer protruding to the functional film section, and to provide a color filter. SOLUTION: The electro-optical device includes: the functional film that transmits light or emits light; a sidewall layer that defines the shape of the functional film; a protruding part in which the sidewall layer protrudes toward the functional film. The outer shape of the protruding part is formed of a straight line and/or a curved line. The protruding side angle that the straight or curved line forms at the mutual connecting part is an obtuse angle. In addition, the outer shape of the protruding part is formed of a straight line and a curved line or curved lines.
