An electrochemical gas sensor 1 includes a carrier substrate 2 with underside 3 and top side 4, a gas inlet 24 for a measurement gas is formed at the underside, wherein an electrode structure 20 with an electrolyte layer 6 is arranged at the top side. A porous region 7 formed of a porous material is provided in the carrier substrate, such that diffusion openings in the porous material connect the underside to the top side in a gas-permeable manner. A gas-tight surface region 33 (barrier 14) is formed on the top side of the substrate adjacent porous region 7, and connections 5 of a measurement electrode of the electrode structure is formed as a metallic coating on the gas-tight region 33, and the electrolyte layer 6 at least partly covers the connection 5 and region 7. A catalyst layer 10 may be included between the porous region and electrolyte layer. |
