<p>A method of killing pathogens on the surface of a product 5 comprises the steps of providing a source of pulsed ultra-violet radiation 100 and irradiating the product with multiple pulses of ultra-violet radiation while rotating the product 5 in synchrony with the pulses. Monochromatic or polychromatic light with a wavelength in the range 200 to 380 nm may be used. The product 5 to be treated may be placed on a support surface 120 and the support surface 120 may be rotated by a calculated amount in order to rotate the product 5 as desired. Rotating the product 5 in synchrony with the pulses ensures that the entire product is irradiated efficiently, reducing costs. By rotating the product 5 a controlled amount it is possible to ensure none of the product is unnecessarily irradiated a second time. Apparatus for killing pathogens on the surface of a product is also disclosed.</p> |
