A heat-insulating sound-absorbing material is provided which has high heat-insulating and sound-absorbing properties and hence complies with severe new specifications for aircrafts. The material is reduced in yielding especially in the thickness direction and can hence retain the high heat-insulating and sound-absorbing effects over long. A thin web, e.g., a carded lap, is formed by evenly blending 30-80% inorganic fibers with high heat resistance which retain strength at high temperatures of 1,000°C and above, 0-50% heat-resistant organic fibers, and 20-40% low-melting organic fibers. The thin web is repeatedly turned up and down in the thickness direction of a sheet to form stacked web layers arranged longitudinally. The resultant bulky cottony material is heat-treated to convert the whole material into a mat. The mat material (10) obtained is laminated on at least one side thereof to the flame-retardant or nonflammable sheet (12).
|
