When the plate material (raw plate (100)) that is sent out from the magnesium alloy coiled material and runs is ground with a grinding belt (13), the thickness of the raw plate (100) at a plurality of places in the widthwise direction is measured with a thickness measuring device (forward sensor (31)), and the gap between a contact roll (11) and a billy roll (12) is adjusted and then ground so that the size of the gap in the widthwise direction is uneven. The grinding step enables the thickness unevenness of a grinding plate (1) in the widthwise direction to be made within 40 µm throughout the length of the grinding plate (1) after grinding.
