PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for boring a long size material, efficiently boring holes in predetermined positions on a long size workpiece. SOLUTION: The boring device is arranged in a boring processing part 41B of a sending route 41 on the side of the sending route 41 for sending a long size workpiece in the longitudinal direction of this long size workpiece. Positioning means 42 with a contact portion 42B, with which the forefront end of the long size workpiece comes in contact, is arranged to be free to travel in the sending route 41. Positioning of the place, where the long size workpiece is subjected to boring processing by boring means, is performed by allowing the long size workpiece to be sent on the sending route 41 until the forefront end of the long size workpiece comes in contact with the contact portion 42B.
