The present invention relates to a waveguide structure and an arrayed-waveguide grating including the same. The waveguide structure includes a lower clad; a core pattern having etched side walls and disposed on the lower clad; a beam restricting pattern covering the top surface of the core pattern; and an upper clad covering the core pattern to which the beam restricting pattern is provided. The beam restricting pattern can be formed from a material having a refractive index larger than that of the upper clad and lower than that of the core pattern, and may have a smaller line width than the core pattern.
