PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily perform authentication operation by collectively authenticating a plurality of devices while connecting the plurality of devices and exchanging information relating to the authentication in accordance with setting contents which are set in the devices. SOLUTION: A setting section 112 of a scanner 11 preferentially sets a function of a user management section 111 OFF and utilization of an address book 110 ON. A setting section 122 of a printer 12 sets a function of a user management section 121 ON, a remote external authentication device of a communication section 123 effective and utilization of an address book 120 OFF. The authentication of the scanner 11 per se is not required but user information is read from a user information acquisition device 13 and an authentication result of authentication OK is transmitted to the printer 12. The user management section 121 of the printer 12 watches the authentication OK, in the scanner 11, included in a received authentication packet 20 and also determines the authentication of the printer 12 per se as OK, thereby permitting use of the printer 12.
