773,951. Spinning yams; roller arrangements in textile spinning &c. machines. SOC. DE CONSTRUCTIONS MECANIQUES DE STAINS. Oct. 24, 1955 [Oct. 28, 1954], No. 30381/55. Classes 120 (2) and 120 (3). A blended sliver of broken filaments and discontinuous fibres is produced by subjecting at least one top of the fibres e.g., wool, to a drawing process, subjecting at least one tow of the filaments e.g. rayon, to a drawing process by which they are broken and feeding the resulting materials separately to a common device which forms them into the blended sliver which may be drawn, doubled, and twisted into yarn. In the apparatus shown, tops Fl, F2, F3 are pulled from bobbins 1, 2, 3 by rollers 4, 5, and pass between rollers 6, 7, over a porcupine roller 10, then between delivery rollers 8, 9 ; the tops which have been drawn between the rollers 4, 5, and 8, 9 are brought together on a rubbing device comprising an endless transversely reciprocating belt 11 driven by engagement with a belt 16 and, after converging towards a guide 19, are wound on a bobbin 21. A tow F4 of the filaments is unwound from a bobbin 22 and then drawn and broken between feed rollers 23, 24 and the delivery rollers 8, 9 while passing over a, rotating prism 28 having pronounced non-cutting edges : the material yarns that produced from the tops on the belt 11 to form a single sliver. Intermediate support (and control) of the filaments undergoing drawing is provided by a belt 26 entrained on rollers 25, 26, 27, and co-operating with a part of the roller 7. The rubbing device may be replaced by a rotating funnel, Fig. 2 (not shown). Specification 734,937 is referred to. |
