A lubricating oil comprises a major amount of a base oil and a minor amount of an additive package, and the additive package comprises one or more friction modifiers of formula I:

and R 1 is a linear or branched, saturated, unsaturated, or partially saturated hydrocarbyl having 8 to 22 carbon atoms and R 2 is hydrogen or a hydrocarbyl having 1 to 2 carbon atoms; or one or more friction modifiers comprising the reaction product of an aliphatic carboxylic acid and an amino hydroxy compound. Methods of using the lubricating oil to improve thin film and/or boundary layer friction in an engine are also disclosed. |
