A temperature sensing system (10) comprises a conductive tube (16), a shape memory alloy (SMA) element (20) and a detector (12). The SMA element (20) is disposed to create an electrical connection with the conductive tube (16) when subjected to at least a critical temperature and the detector (12) is configured to identify an alarm condition when the conductive tube (16) and the SMA element (20) form a closed electrical circuit.
