The invention relates to a design approach for estimating the stability of a rectangular mudmat with shallow skirts, under the action of three-dimensional loads involving vertical loads (deadweight), and lateral loads and moments (live loading). The mudmat is used in subsea foundations where the seabed soil is too soft to bear the load of subsea structures such as pipeline terminations, The design approach allows the foundation size to be optimised, leading to a significant reduction in size compared to that derived using the classical bearing capacity approach previously favoured in the offshore industry.
|
